SHIPPING
CORPORATION OF INDIA - SCI / MARITIME TRAINING INSTITUTE - MTI
Applications are invited from Unmarried Male and Female
Indian Nationals possessing educational qualifications and age, as prescribed
below, for selection of TNOC ( Trainee Navigating Officer Cadet ) for Diploma
in Nautical Science (DNS) leading to Degree in B. Sc (Nautical Science)
affiliated to IMU- D G Shipping (August 2018 Batch.)
You can be considered for selection to the SCI as a TNOC, If
you have completed your HSC with at-least 60% marks in PCM as per the DGS
guidelines in force at present. After completing pre-sea training of 12 months
and shipboard training of 18 months and successfully clearing the Second Mates
Certificate of Competency Examinations, you can start your career at sea as a
Third Officer and work your way upwards to becoming a Master.
The selection as TNOC is based on an
entrance examination and interviews conducted by SCI. Notices regarding the
recruitment of TNOCs is published in the employment news and leading newspapers
in India.
Selected candidates would also be
required to successfully undergo a medical examination as required under
STCW/MS Medical Rules 2000.

AUG 2018 BATCHES)
Diploma in Nautical Science - D.N.S
- There are 2 batches for the DNS course being held each year, commencing in February and August.
- Educational Qualification:
For 10+2 Science Students: From a recognized Board/University
with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), with not less than 60% marks in
PCM and 60% aggregate.
For B.Sc Students: With Physics as an individual
subject in any one of the years of B.Sc, with not less than 55% marks in the
final year of B.Sc, from a recognized University provided that the candidate
must have passed 10 + 2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
(PCM) from a recognized Board.
For BE/B.Tech Students: or its equivalent degree with
minimum 55% aggregate from I.I.T. or from a college recognized by
AICTE/UGC/DEC.
STUDENTS
AWAITING 10+2 RESULTS CAN ALSO APPLY
AND English:
Should have passed with not less
than 50% marks in English as a separate subject, at either 10th or 12th
standard or in the Degree programme conducted by a recognized Board/University.
Age Limit: DGS guidelines stipulates that age
of candidates should not be exceed 25 Yrs on the date of commencement of
course’ (Course commences on 1st Monday in February and August every year).
Physical and Medical Standards: Medically fit as per the standards set by Merchant Shipping
(Medical Examination Rules’ 2000) and eyesight 6/6 in each eye without visual
aids and No Colour Blindness.
Applicants will be evaluated on
basis of Technical knowledge; Reasoning and English language skills; and
Psychological pre-disposition.

- Admission Procedure / Selection Procedure:
Apply to a SHIPPING CORPORATION OF INDIA –SCI for
the post of Deck Cadet.
- The company will invite the applicant for a selection test provided the applicant fulfills all the qualification criteria set by DG Shipping and the Company as mentioned above.
- Applicant undergoes company selection test which includes a written test, a Psychometric evaluation, Interview and Medical Test.
- If applicant is successful in clearing the selection test then he is told to appear the IMU entrance test
- On successful passing of the IMU entrance test the applicant is advised to undergo a 1 year pre-sea course at MARITIME TRAINING INSTITUTE - MTI

- What do you mean by a sponsored candidate?
The term sponsored candidate is used
for as a candidate who will be sponsored a sea-berth on board a ship on
completion of training. It does not relate to sponsorship of tuition fees at
the pre-sea training institute.
A candidate who has met all the
qualifying criteria; will be sponsored a sea berth by SHIPPING CORPORATION OF INDIA –SCI on board
one of its large fleet of ships.
- What is Pre-Sea Training?
As per stipulations from Directorate
General of Shipping (D.G.) every candidate desirous of joining as an officer or
an engineer on ships has to undergo one year of pre-sea training ashore.
Pre-sea training can be undertaken in any one of the D.G. approved pre-sea
training institutes across India.
